Finding Subjects

Anything can be an abstract photograph. A rusted metal surface, water reflections, fabric folds, architectural details, macro shots of everyday objects — the world is full of abstract potential waiting to be discovered.

Train yourself to look at the world in fragments. Rather than seeing a building, see the repeating pattern of its windows. Rather than a puddle, see the reflections and color distortions it creates.

Camera Techniques

Macro photography, intentional camera movement (ICM), multiple exposures, and extreme focal lengths are all powerful tools for abstraction. Experiment with slow shutter speeds to blur motion, or use a macro lens to reveal hidden details in everyday textures.
